How to Choose a Treatment Table

Treatment tables are used for physical therapy, chiropractic care, athletic training, rehab and general procedures. Here is what to compare before you buy.

Fixed-height or hi-lo treatment table?

Fixed-height treatment tables are the most affordable and need no power outlet. They are the standard choice for taping and athletic training rooms, therapy clinics and general treatment rooms. Hi-lo treatment tables raise and lower electrically, so patients get on at a low height and the therapist works at a comfortable one. That makes transfers easier and reduces strain on staff during manual therapy and mobilization. Options include the Clinton 87200 Power-Glide, the Clinton E-Series, the Clinton Power 400, 500 and XL 600 tables, and the PARICO-Coinfycare electric hi-lo tables, which lower to an ADA-friendly 17 inches.

Wood or steel frame?

Clinton Classic Series tables use PVC-laminated hardwood legs for a warm, furniture-style look. Clinton Alpha Series tables use a powder-coated all-steel frame. Both come in many upholstery colors.

Base and storage

• H-brace: open legs with a cross brace. Lightest and most affordable.
• Full shelf or shelving: open storage for towels, pillows and supplies.
• Drawers or cabinets: closed storage that keeps the room tidy.

Top style

• Flat top: one-piece top for massage, mobilization and taping.
• Adjustable backrest: raises the head section to seat patients upright. The Clinton 1010 backrest has six positions.

Width, length and weight capacity

Many treatment tables come in 24, 27 and 30 inch widths, and some in a 78 inch length for taller patients. Wider tops are more comfortable for larger patients and side-lying positions.
